Peach Tree vs Squirrels question?

We planted a peach tree in our back yard almost 3 years ago when my father in law passed (in his memory). Mind you, my husband and I are not the garden out side people, we just thought it would be nice. Last year it bloomed, but the squirrels ate the 3 peaches. This year at least 100 blooms have appeared! How can we stop the squirrels?

Peach Tree vs Squirrels question?
If the squirrels are are only getting to your tree by climbing up the trunk, just wrap the the trunk with a 2 foot wide piece of sheet metal high enough up so that the squirrels can%26#039;t jump right over it. They can%26#039;t get a grip on the slick surface, so they can%26#039;t climb up past it. You can get aluminum material in a brown finish that will not stand out so much.

Other than that, the only way to stop them is to eliminate them all together. Consider a Havahart trap designed just for squirrels. But you%26#039;ll have to take them several miles away or they%26#039;ll come right back for more free food!

Hope that helps!
Reply:Did your FIL like squirrels? Maybe he sees them (from heaven) and thinks its funny!

Short of killing (illegal?)or trapping the squirrels there%26#039;s not much else you can do. You could try putting cayenne on the peaches but that would ruin them for you to eat also. Maybe try giving them an alternative food source, away from the peach tree.
Reply:You can shoot them, or trap them. When they cause garden damage it is the only certain way. It is also possible to turn your garden into an anti-Squirrel Alcatraz in the vain attempt to send them elsewhere. Shoot them.
Reply:I don%26#039;t know that it%26#039;s possible to stop them all the time.

Go to a home and garden store and ask if they have a treatment for the trunk of the tree that will deter the squirrels or cause them to slip off the trunk.

Better yet, harvest the peaches as soon as they appear and sell them or eat them or can them or preserve them.....
